Some worry in life is expected. We may even find it useful as it helps to keep us motivated. For some people, the worrying isn't helpful and can actually make it difficult to function. It can be hard to control or manage the thoughts that are racing through your mind. It may be difficult to sleep or concentrate. You may also feel irritable a lot of the time. It may be hard to stay in the moment because the mind is focused on worrying about things that may happen. There can be physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, headaches, or stomach aches. When worry impacts your daily life, you may be experiencing anxiety.
At Empowerment Counseling, we will work with you to develop a healthy way to manage your thoughts and worries. This may include strategies such as mindfulness, which helps you stay present and focused or challenging problematic thoughts with more adaptive and healthy ones. It also may involve working on relaxation techniques to help you calm your body when anxiety hits.
